Not Every Voice Is God’s Voice
A Devotional on Discernment, Spiritual Clarity, and the Nature of God’s Voice
Conviction vs. Condemnation
Ever hear a voice in your head say, “You’re not good enough”? That ain’t the Lord, child of God. That is a lie talking to you. God doesn’t speak in shame. His voice may convict you, but it will never condemn you. There is a difference between the two voices.
- “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” — Romans 8:1
- “Whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.” — 1 John 3:20
- “Hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit…” — Romans 5:5
God Speaks in Peace, Not Confusion
God convicts to restore, not to shame. Condemnation is not His language. Here’s a fact: The enemy whispers in confusion. But when God speaks—or sends an agent, an angel, a messenger—He does so in peace. If it ain’t clear, kind, loving, or righteous? It ain’t God.
- “For God is a God not of disorder but of peace.” — 1 Corinthians 14:33
- “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives.” — John 14:27
- “The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:7
The Loudest Voice Isn’t Always the Truest
If it’s chaotic, accusatory, or unclear—it’s not God. Some of y’all have been following the loudest voice, but it ain’t the truest voice. The devil shouts. The Shepherd speaks softly—and with surety. Do not trust every thought that visits your mind. Not every voice comes from Heaven. Some of them have smoke on their breath.
- “After the fire a sound of sheer silence. Then there came a voice…” — 1 Kings 19:12
- “My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me.” — John 10:27
- “Be still, and know that I am God…” — Psalm 46:10
When You’re Weary, Lies Get Loud
God’s voice is often quiet—but unmistakably true. Now, when you are weary and worn, the lies get loud. This is why staying in prayer is imperative. God speaks. Don’t let the religious or the traditionalist fool you into thinking otherwise. They are full of deceit and lies.
- “He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless.” — Isaiah 40:29
- “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28
- “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted…” — Psalm 34:18
Religion Can Be a Deceptive Voice
Prayer is the anchor that keeps you tuned to the true voice. Religion is a demon that’s happened to be found wearing sheep’s clothing—or cloths that look sacred. Don’t believe them. That’s a voice too.
- “Woe to you… you are like whitewashed tombs… full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.” — Matthew 23:27
- “Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” — 2 Corinthians 11:14–15
- “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.” — Matthew 7:15
God’s Voice Is Still, Not Chaotic
God calls you to relationship—not religious performance. God speaks in stillness, never chaos. He may speak into your chaos, but His voice is not chaotic. He speaks in love and mercy—never fear or mockery.
- “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” — Isaiah 30:15
- “He will quiet you with his love…” — Zephaniah 3:17
- “Let me hear what God the Lord will speak, for he will speak peace to his people…” — Psalm 85:8
Silence the Voice That Tells You to Quit
His voice brings clarity—not confusion. If the voice in your head is telling you to give up, tell it to hush. Say out loud: “Shut up.” Dominate over it. Drown that voice out.
- “We take every thought captive to obey Christ.” — 2 Corinthians 10:5
- “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” — James 4:7
- “No weapon that is fashioned against you shall prosper, and you shall confute every tongue that rises against you in judgment.” — Isaiah 54:17
The One Still Voice Always Calls You Home
You have authority to silence the lie and stand in truth. The one still voice will always call you home.
- “While he was still far off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion…” — Luke 15:20
- “I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.” — Jeremiah 31:3
- “He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.” — John 10:3
Do You Really Know Who God Is?
God’s voice is always calling you back to Himself—with love, not shame.
Many times, we do not truly know who God is. Now, God is also One you do not want angry with you. It’s not that God is always sitting up there waiting for you to make a mistake, holding a billy club or gavel, ready to beat you over the head. How preposterous. Yet, it is important to recognize who God is.
However, when you deliberately refuse to obey—when you make a conscious effort to deny Him what He wants and instead do all that you want, knowing better—God is not the One you want angry with you. You won’t be able to pray Him off of you. You can’t stop His anger.
Now, understand: the fools who say you’re going to lose your salvation? You best not listen to them. Those foolish statements are what make them fools. Don’t be foolish. Understand this—God’s anger? There is a reason for it. It’s called getting us back in line with Him.
God Is Sovereign—Not Casual
God is sovereign. He is not your best friend. He is not your homie. He is God—and He is to be revered, feared, and worshiped. He is to be loved and obeyed. He is the Creator of all things, and outside of Him, there is nothing. He is the beginning and the end, and all parts in between. No one can escape His judgment. No one. He is in control of death and life. He is in absolute control.
Some folks erroneously think that God is some great big babysitter, with harp-styled elevator music playing off in the distance. But that is not true.
God Sits Alone on the Throne
God sits on THE THRONE ALL BY HIMSELF. He is surrounded by twenty-four elders on their thrones—yet we see them doing less sitting and more bowing in reverence, crying, “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty.” There are not multiple persons of God, for there is only one throne, for ONE God. That other stuff is made-up theology, an attempt to explain Him away. How dare we do such a thing to a Great God—the ONE AND ONLY GOD?
Those elders are found laying their crowns at the feet of God. We are not those elders, and yet we seek to retain whatever crowns we think we deserve to have and to hold.
Take This Devotional Seriously
We take God for granted. We do not know who He is. We may read the Bible, and we may even get a glimpse of Him—but do we really know who God is?
With this devotional: take it, use it, read it, live it, practice it. But whatever you do—do not ignore it.
Ending Prayer
Father God, You are holy, sovereign, and true. You speak in peace, not confusion—in conviction, not condemnation. Today, we silence every voice that does not come from You. We take captive every thought that rises against Your truth, and we submit our minds, hearts, and spirits to Your authority.
Teach us to discern Your voice in the stillness. Help us to reject the lies of shame, fear, and deception. Let Your Word be louder than the enemy’s whisper. Let Your Spirit guide us into all truth.
Forgive us for the times we’ve followed noise instead of Your whisper. Forgive us for treating You casually, for forgetting Your holiness, for resisting Your correction. We return to You now—not with fear, but with reverence. Not with guilt, but with gratitude.
Speak, Lord. Your servants are listening. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Benediction
May the Lord bless you with ears to hear His voice above every lie. May He guard your heart with peace that surpasses understanding. May you walk in clarity, conviction, and courage—never confusion. May the still voice of the Shepherd lead you home, And may you never again mistake noise for truth.
Go in grace, go in truth, go in the power of His voice. Amen.
Grace & Peace
